Student Attainment and Progression

Student attainment and progression at Bishopstrow College 2023-2024

At Bishopstrow College, we assess student attainment and progression through the Cambridge English, National Curriculum, and Cambridge IGCSE assessments.

In English language proficiency, students made an average progress of 24 to 25 CES points, equivalent to about two and a half CEFR bands over four terms. This remarkable achievement highlights their hard work and dedication.

For our Junior and Middle Colleges, we track progress using the National Curriculum Level scale, while Senior College students use the IGCSE grade scale. This year, students averaged 8 National Curriculum levels and 9 IGCSE levels, demonstrating impressive growth.

By the end of their courses, students are well-prepared to enter British boarding schools, equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to excel. Our comprehensive assessment approach ensures that each student can unlock their potential and achieve success both at Bishopstrow and beyond.

Progression – English language Curriculum

Bishopstrow College uses Cambridge English assessments to track student progress in English. The Cambridge English Scale shows the average progress students make during their time at the College. This scale aligns with the Common European Framework of Reference, where approximately 20 CES points equal one CEFR band.

Annual Review

This academic year, our students made an average progress of 24 to 25 Cambridge English Scale points, equating to about two and a half CEFR bands over four terms. This remarkable progress shows how hard our students are working to prepare for entry into a British boarding school and reach their full potential.

Progression- Subject Curriculum

Bishopstrow College uses the national curriculum and Cambridge IGCSE assessments to track student progress. The National Curriculum Level scale measures progress for Junior and Middle Colleges, while the IGCSE grade scale is for senior students. Progress is divided into three parts, meaning students must score three points to achieve one level of progress.

Annual Review

This academic year, our students made an average progress of 8 National Curriculum levels or 9 IGCSE levels. Since students must score three points to achieve one level of progress, this means Junior and Middle students achieved nearly three National Curriculum levels, while Senior College students improved by three IGCSE grades over four terms. This excellent progress demonstrates that our students are working hard and acquiring the English language skills necessary to excel in their subjects and prepare for their next school.

IGCSE

Bishopstrow College Celebrates Outstanding IGCSE Results for 2023-24 Cohort

We are thrilled to announce the exceptional achievements of our 2023-24 IGCSE cohort, who have shown remarkable progress throughout the year. On average, students improved by three IGCSE grades over the course of our one-year IGCSE programme. This significant achievement reflects not only the hard work and dedication of our students but also the effectiveness of our integrated teaching approach.

At Bishopstrow College, we specialise in preparing international students for academic success by combining subject content with English language learning. Using the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) method, our students learn English within the context of their subjects, which accelerates both language acquisition and academic understanding.

These results highlight the impact of our tailored approach, designed to meet the needs of students at various English language levels. By integrating language development with rigorous academic preparation, our students leave ready to excel in their future studies, whether at A-level, IB, or other international qualifications.

We are incredibly proud of this year’s cohort and look forward to seeing them continue to thrive as they move on to the next stages of their academic journeys.
